Practice Exams: Leveraging What You Have and Packaging it as a Must-Have Tool for your Candidates

Monday, March 18 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm

ROOM: Bayhill 19

Preparing for a certification or licensure examination can be very stressful for candidates. Candidates often wonder what to expect, what type of questions are on the exam, and how will the exam be delivered. One way to help them become more familiar with the format and structure of your examination is to provide a practice exam, built from the same blueprint, assessing the same competencies or knowledge statements, and administered on the same platform or tool.

Yardstick Assessment Strategies (YAS) has been working with the Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) on the delivery of their practice exams. FPSC has developed two practice exams, one for each of the exam they deliver for CFP certification. Information as to the strategies used in developing and implementing the practice exams will be shared, including information on uptake, key elements related to marketing and communication, factors considered in establishing eligibility to access the tool, determination of what items to use and how to leverage existing content and processes, and benefits to candidates.

In addition, the presenters will discuss how organizations can leverage Automatic Item Generation (AIG) in developing content for practice exams. Participants will get an overview of the technology and key elements to consider in efficiently generating items.

Presenters:

John Hawkins, VP of Product & Operations | Yardstick Assessment Strategies
Paulette Anthony, Director, Examinations & Certification Process | Financial Planning Standards Council

Comparability or Equivalency: The Parallels Between Remote Proctoring and Test Centre Exam Delivery through Data and Lessons Learned

Monday, March 18 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm

ROOM: Celebration 5 & 6

This presentation will focus on a comparative review between test center and remote proctoring delivery using the International Code Council certification program as a case study. We will be reviewing data points such as item performance, pass and fail results, time spent, number and types of irregularities, geography, and candidate satisfaction. Key elements related to exam security, standardization, proctoring methods, as well as lessons learned on implementation of remote proctoring will be provided and discussed with the audience.

Presenters:

Isabelle Gonthier, President & COO | Yardstick Assessment Strategies (YAS)
Michelle Porter, Director, Assessment Center | International Code Council (ICC)
